“In 1952, the Detmold-based electrical engineering company took part for the first time with a small stand at what is now the world’s largest industrial fair.”
The world’s largest industrial fair is taking place in Hanover in two weeks’ time. For the 70th time, companies from all over the world will convene in the capital of Lower Saxony at the end of April to present their latest products and solutions to the world. Electrical engineering specialist Weidmüller is also celebrating a small jubilee: between 27 April and 6 May 1952, Weidmüller took part for the first time in the industrial fair with a small stand. Back then, it was still known as the Deutsche Industrie-Messe (German Industrial Fair). “As a young company in the region, the aim at the time was to showcase products and new developments such as the then SAK terminal strip with patented steel clamping yoke and thus tap into a larger market,” explains Weidmüller’s Chief Marketing and Sales Officer, José Carlos Álvarez Tobar.
In 1952, the company demonstrated five different products at its stand number 703 in hall 9a – from the screw-on insulating material series terminal through cast-encapsulated and steel-encapsulated terminal boxes to multi-pin, disconnectable device terminals. “The range also included the then innovative terminals made of leakage-current-resistant pressed material, which were presented with three different connection systems and deliberately made from impact-resistant insulating material – a material which had very much proven its worth in switchgear technology at the time and which was in widespread use,” reports Álvarez Tobar.
A lot has changed since then – the company now presents its innovations on two-storey stand number B58, covering nearly 650 square metres in hall 11. “Across 22 themed areas, we show our customers from all over the world our current product range and all the latest innovations,” explains Álvarez Tobar. “At the same time, there are a number of different live applications so that visitors can also experience the products, solutions and services in use. Once again this year, one of the highlights is definitely our Industry 4.0 cockpit and the link between our engineering software and ‘augmented reality’,” reports Álvarez Tobar. “Visitors can use 3D glasses to view the mounting rails designed by the software directly in the panel and receive additional information. There is also a focus on the topics of data analysis and predictive maintenance.”
“Every year, the Hannover Messe represents the perfect opportunity to showcase our company and our solutions and applications in a perfect environment and credibly and convincingly with respect to our brand values of close personal relationships, new technologies and excellent services,” explains Marion Sommerwerck, the Vice President of Corporate Communications at Weidmüller, who is responsible for global brand positioning. “The stand provides the backdrop for high-quality, exciting presentation of products, technologies and services and a platform for dialogue communication and hospitality. I am looking forward to seeing how the visitors react to our stand.”
